The beautiful hill-station with its natural splendour is also known as ‘queen’ of Maharashtra. It is very famous among environmentalists as a precious ecological hotspot. Located in the princely state of Sawantwadi, Amboli is situated on the ridge of the Western Ghats, is known for the variety of fairly unusual flora and fauna. There is an ancient Shiva temple (called Hiranyakeshwar) in the cave from where the river Hiranyakeshi originates. The waterfalls are at their prime during the monsoon season and offer a beautiful scenic view of gushing water.

Some of the important spots are the Nangartas Waterfall, Mahadevgad and Kavlesaad – an interesting point from where one can get a view of the Sahyadri ranges. It is the last hill station before the costal highlands of Goa. Apart from pleasant climate, the hills have dense green forests and the area becomes quite chilly during winters which is pleasant and soothing.
