Baramotichi Vihir is an ancient step well situated near Limb village, one of the popular places of sightseeing in Satara. The stepwell was constructed between 1641 AD and 1646 AD by Virubhai Bhosale and was meant to be a water source for all the farms around. The octagonal shaped well is 110 feet deep and 50 feet in diameter having beautiful top view of tiny walls and water channels. Unlike the step-wells found in Rajasthan, this well has steps from one side leading to the middle of the well. There is an arched opening after climbing down the stairs with two beautiful carved flowers on either side of the arch and a gallery above. On top of this arched opening, there is a gallery which opens out to both sides which can be reached by a narrow “chor-darwaja” from the side on the ground level.
