A typical “Dhobi Ghat” has rows of concrete wash pans, each fitted with its own flogging stone to get rid of dirt from the laundry collected form different parts of the city. The clothes are usually soaked in water first, thrashed violently on the flogging stones, tossed into starch if required hung out or put in huge dryers to dry. After that they are ironed and piled into neat bundles and sent to the respective owners.
