History
The antiquity of the human habitation in the state goes back to the stone age period (1.27 million years ago). The history as documented depicts Maharashtra being helmed by great empires from the Maurya Dynasty, Satavahana Dynasty, Rashtrakuta Dynasty, Western Chalukyas, Yadavas, Mughals and Marathas. On 1st May 1960 the separate Marathi speaking state of Maharashtra was formed.
Economy
Maharashtra’s economy is driven by international trade, manufacturing, mass media (television, motion pictures, recorded music), aerospace, technology, fashion, apparel, tourism and petroleum. It is one of the most industrialised state in the country and has maintained the leading position in the industrial sector in India. Mumbai, the capital of the state and the financial capital of India, houses the headquarters of major corporate and financial institutions and also India’s main stock exchange.

A 10 day revelry celebrating “Lord Ganesh” – a symbol of wisdom and good luck. Celebrated throughout Maharashtra in almost every household at an individual level, as well as, at the community level. Starts with installation of Lord Ganesh idol which is worshipped daily along with family and friends and ends with the procession of idol to the nearest water body for immersion.
